The refurbishment to bring Dreamland in Margate back to life will create many Kent jobs in the process.
According to the Kent News, funding for the project has nearly been completed from a series of investors that could see the amusement park and Margate reap the benefits.
The funding is made up from a £3.8 million Government grant, £3 million from Heritage Lottery, £4 million from the Margate Town Centre Regeneration Company (MTCRC) and £12.5 million from local councils.
Concerns have been voiced that MTCRC won’t be able to contribute their share in which case Thanet council will need to bring the money in.
The Government grant is from A Sea Change project which will fall away if the money isn’t put to use on Dreamland before March 31, 2011.
If funding and plans for the refurbishment isn’t completely agreed upon by July 31, Dreamland will need to be sold.
Parties involved are confident that this won’t be needed and are sure that building will start by the end of this year.
According to the newspaper the amusement park will be the UK’s first heritage theme-park and the listed cinema will be transformed into a restaurant and bar.
It has been estimated that the park will attract 700,000 visitors every year and create around 200 jobs.
Dreamland could be ready for action in the summer of 2012.
