Kent jobs to gain from £5m government seaside investment

Kent jobs will gain from a £5m government scheme that will ensure extra funding to 25 seaside resorts in the country.

Margate and Ramsgate will receive an additional £200,000 through the government’s Sea Change programme.

According to Kent Online, the programme has already invested £38 million in projects around the UK.

Communities Secretary John Denham commented: “Our coastal areas are rich with history and a high quality of life that makes them attractive places to live in and many seafronts have been transformed in recent years with our help.

“This new strategy will help areas like Thanet take advantage of the new opportunities and support available - from restoring piers and creating jobs to improving local housing and funding creative projects that will develop stronger economies and help ensure a successful future for the British seaside.”

Denham also announced that more jobs in Thanet could be created if wind farm licenses are approved.

Thanet is already benefiting from two off shore wind farm projects that are underway.

According to Denham, off shore wind farms can be worth £75 billion to the UK economy and create around 70,000 jobs.
