A new multi-billion pound project to create a new train depot will help create around 300
engineering jobs as the capital prepares to host the 2012 Olympic Games, according to one newspaper.
The train operator Network Rail is behind the £5.5 billion Crawley-based depot, which will be built in Three Bridges and will provide opportunities for engineers as well as more trains by the time the games begin, reports the Crawley News.
Graham Goodwin, spokesman for Network Rail, said: "We are a very large organisation with a lot of land. There is a lot of activity going on at the moment. The reality is there are going to be some real opportunities in Three Bridges."
He added that there will be various roles on offer after the new depot has opened which will include train drivers, cleaners, maintenance staff and engineers.
Engineering jobs in Yorkshire were recently bolstered by the news that Japanese technology giant Hitachi has earmarked two locations in the region as possible sites for the manufacture of its new high-speed trains.
