retail jobs have received a boost by the news that the redevelopment of a shopping centre in Blackburn, including a Primark store, will bring 200 roles to the area.
The Citizen reported that the jobs will be available in stores at the new £66 million redevelopment at the Mall shopping centre in the north-west town, and there will be additional roles at a cafe and nine catering stalls.
Blackburn with Darwen Council leader Mike Lee told the newspaper: "It's a fantastic employment opportunity for local residents and it's a sign of what's to come ... The council is hoping that [it] will generate more interest in things like museums and more money for the local economy."
He added that the council hopes the new development will increase footfall in the city centre and increase the variety of stores on offer for shoppers in Blackburn.
The Yorkshire Post recently reported on the £650 million Land Securities-run Trinity Leeds scheme, which will see big-name brands and stores like Yo Sushi! and Carluccio's bring employment to the city.
